PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Waterways Ireland has responsibility for the management, maintenance, development and restoration of inland navigable waterways principally for recreational purposes. The waterways under the remit of the body are the Barrow Navigation, the Erne System, the Grand Canal, the Lower Bann, the Royal, the Shannon-Erne Waterway and the Shannon Navigation.
Their mission is to provide a high-quality recreational environment, on their waterways, for the benefit of all who use their facilities. Again, because Waterways Ireland prides itself on the excellent welfare facilities that it provides for all users of their extensive waterway navigation system, they were very particular on which contractor they awarded this contract to.
Kenaidan Contractors Ltd. were selected from a select list of contractors to construct these two service blocks, at Killaloe and Lowtown, on the Shannon Navigation system and the Grand Canal system.
These buildings are built to a very high specification. The Service Blocks comprise of a number of shower rooms, laundry rooms and facilities, canteen and kitchen fit-outs. Top of the range finishes includes natural limestone external wall finishes, natural slate roof finishes and general finishes to ensure that the maintenance of the buildings is minimised.
Each building was constructed in a very sensitive natural environment setting, close to deep water in rural surroundings.
