PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Clashganny Service Block is situated on the banks of the river Barrow, near Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow, part of the overall Waterways Ireland Barrow Navigation system. The River Barrow has its source in the Slieve Bloom Mountains and is Ireland’s second largest river system, running for 192 km from its source to the sea.
The Barrow Navigation which runs from Athy in Co Kildare to St. Mullins in Co Carlow is a river navigation system with lateral canals bypassing the weirs. The Barrow Navigation winds its way through peaceful woods, fertile valleys, picturesque villages and is used by boating enthusiasts as well as anglers and walkers. The Barrow winds its way through a wooded valley, linking the still waters of the Grand Canal with the tidal waters of the Barrow estuary.
Waterways Ireland prides itself on the excellent welfare facilities that it provides for all users of their extensive waterway navigation system, again they were very particular on which contractor they awarded this contract to.
Kenaidan Contractors Ltd. was selected from a select list of contractors to construct this large service block, due primarily to their extensive experience with Waterways Ireland projects. Built to a very high specification, the Service Block comprise of a number of shower rooms, laundry rooms and facilities, canteen and kitchen fit-outs and a large recreational room. The building was constructed to reflect the very sensitive natural environment setting, close to deep water in rural countryside surroundings.
